Haiku Anyone?

So - we're doing a fast two-day study on Japan in school. And today's activities is writing Haiku, a form of Japanese poetry. It is three lines, which follow the syllable meter 5, 7, 5. Here are the kids' and my examples of haikus

Justin:

LEAF
Leaf, green, fertile, live
You provide for buggy-bugs
You also give air

DOGS
Dogs play all day
"Throw a ball!", they call to you.
Now they sleep, good night!

GRILL
 Grill, still, grilling now.
Papa grilling hot dogs now.
And we eat. THANK YOU!

Here are ALlison's:

BIRD
Bird, where do you fly?
Little bird, where are you now?
My nest, snug and warm.

SUNFLOWER
Sunflower, grow tall
Shady, way above my head
Yellow, black and bright

GRASS
Green grass in my yard
Growing tall but not too tall
Or we mow you down.

Here are mine:

TREE WARRIOR
Tree in my front yard
Silent, tall green warrior
You protect the birds

GRASS
Slender stalks of grass
Popping up between my toes
Itchy, scratchy, you hold bugs

WIND
Wind, blowing, moving
Causing trees to sway and bend
My hair looks messy.

NEIGHBORHOOD
Houses on my street
Lined up neatly in a row
Like a crowd, waiting

YOUNG TREE
Young tree in the ground
Branches moving in the breeze
Waving right at me

Can you tell we had fun??

I love homeschool.
